Description

SulfaPlex is an effective and safe treatment for many bacterial, fungal, and protozoan infestations in the aquarium. While it can be used in both freshwater and saltwater, it is particularly effective against common bacterial and fungal infections in freshwater fish. It is one of the gentler antibiotics and is excellent for treating fish that are already stressed. It can be easily removed with activated carbon and does not affect nitrification. Instructions: Dosage in water: Remove all invertebrates - they are extremely sensitive to medications. Disable UV filters, ozone filters, and remove chemical filters such as MatrixCarbon and Purigen. Use 2-3 scoops (included) for every 40 L (10 US gallons). Repeat this dose every 72 hours for a maximum of 3 weeks. Food dosage: SulfaPlex is most effective when used in water but can also be added to food. Administer the medicated food mix (recipe below) daily until the infection clears or for up to 3 weeks: 1 tablespoon SulfaPlex 1 tablespoon Focus 1 tablespoon food (preferably pellets or frozen food) A few drops of water if using dry food To enhance palatability, use GarlicGuard or Entice. After treatment: After the treatment period, SulfaPlex can be easily removed with an activated carbon filter such as MatrixCarbon. It does not persist in the substrate or filtering environment of the aquarium.

Therapeutic indications: Fin rot: Bacterial infection, frayed or decaying fins. Recommended treatment: 3 weeks or until the infection clears. Hemorrhagic septicemia: Reddish streaks on fins or under scales, commonly seen in goldfish. Recommended treatment: 3 weeks. Fur coat syndrome: Tissue discoloration, appearance of a gray or brown "fur" on the body. Recommended treatment: 3 weeks. Mouth rot: Infection caused by Columnaris, with ulcers and yellowish spots on the gills. Recommended treatment: 3 weeks. Fungus: White cotton-like tufts, usually a secondary infection. Recommended treatment: 3 weeks. Special considerations: Secondary infections are common; check for other diseases. Columnaris is highly contagious; treat fish separately if possible. Fur coat syndrome is associated with poor water conditions and low temperatures. Precautions: Do not use on invertebrates. Avoid overdose; follow instructions carefully. Keep out of reach of children.

Practical tips for use in the discus aquarium

For minor issues (mild external parasites, stress) — yes, if the treatment is compatible with the fish and the filter bacteria. For serious diseases (hexamita, flexibacter), treat in a quarantine tank. Always read the label and remove activated carbon from the filter, or it will absorb the treatment.
