Yellow Lemon
Symphysodon sp.
Description
The Yellow Lemon is distinguished by its vibrant and bright lemon-yellow color throughout its body. It is rarer than the orange varieties, showcasing a fresh and distinctive appearance.
🌍 Origin & History
This variety is derived from the Pigeon Blood line by selecting for a lemon-yellow background instead of orange. It was developed in Southeast Asian breeding farms (Malaysia, Thailand) in the 2000s and is popular for its unique and vibrant color.
Appearance
The body is uniformly lemon-yellow or bright golden-yellow, without vertical bars. The scales have a slight metallic sheen. Minimal or absent peppering. The eyes are orange-red. The fins are yellow with translucent edges. The body is well-rounded and symmetrical.
🧬 Genetic background
It is primarily based on the dominant Pigeon Blood gene, with selection for xanthophyll (yellow) pigment instead of carotenoid (orange/red). Crossbreeding with Golden or Yellow Crystal lines has contributed to the intensification of the yellow color. It inherits the PB characteristics: no vertical bars, minimal peppering.
