🌍 Origin & History
The Tefé and Coari region (Brazil). The top variety of Green Discus — specimens with the densest and most intense red spots are called 'Royal Red Spotted Green.'
Appearance
Turquoise-green body adorned with bright red spots covering the entire body — sides, dorsal, anal, and caudal fins. The density and intensity of the spots define the 'Royal' quality.
🧬 Genetic background
Natural selection from Symphysodon tarzoo — only 1–5% of wild Green Discus reach the density and intensity that justify the title 'Royal'. The red spots cover the entire body, including the fins.
Recommended water parameters
Care
Requires authentic blackwater conditions. RO remineralized water, catappa leaves, peat. A diet rich in astaxanthin to maintain the intensity of the spots.
Breeding
Very difficult in captivity. Most specimens available for sale are captured from the wild.
