Symphysodon sp.
Description
Blue Snakeskin features a pattern of wavy blue lines on a brownish-blue background, resembling snake skin. This distinctive pattern is also present on the gill plates.
🌍 Origin & History
The Snakeskin variety first appeared in 1990/91 when a 9-bar variant was imported from Thailand, followed by a 14-bar variant from Penang in 1993. Blue Snakeskin is the blue version of this line.
Appearance
The body showcases a dense pattern of fine wavy blue lines on a brownish-blue background. It features a distinctive pattern of fine lines and spots on the gill plates—characteristics that are specific to all snakeskin types. There are 14 fine vertical bars. The eyes are red.
🧬 Genetic background
Wild Discus with 14 fine bars (possibly from Symphysodon aequifasciatus haraldi) crossed with domestic lines. The distinguishing trait is the pattern of fine lines versus the thick stripes of the Turquoise. This special pattern is visible on the gill plates (fine lines and spots).
