Blue Turquoise
Symphysodon aequifasciatus haraldi
Description
The Blue Turquoise is the classic turquoise discus, featuring rich blue stripes against a brown-blue background. It is one of the oldest hybrid varieties, forming the basis of many modern strains.
🌍 Origin & History
The Blue Turquoise is one of the first hybrid discus varieties, directly derived from Dr. Schmidt-Focke's Wild Blue (Royal Blue) and crossbreeds from the 1960s-70s. It represents the direct evolution of wild blue discus towards a more intense and uniform color.
Appearance
Body with a brown-blue to turquoise background, covered by thick, bright blue-turquoise horizontal stripes. The stripes are straight or slightly wavy, distributed over 60-100% of the body surface. Red eyes. Vertical stress bars are visible when stressed. Fins have turquoise streaks.
🧬 Genetic background
Based on Wild Blue (Symphysodon aequifasciatus haraldi) × Green Discus. Selected for maximizing the blue-turquoise stripes against the brown-blue background. The horizontal stripes are thick — a dominant trait over Snakeskin.
