Description
Cobalt feature a deep, uniform cobalt-blue body, serving as an intermediary between the Blue Turquoise (striped) and Blue Diamond (solid) varieties. The stripes are so dense that the body appears almost entirely blue.
🌍 Origin & History
Cobalt Blue was developed by Dr. Charles Wall in the USA in 1972, through selective breeding from Blue Turquoise lines to achieve a more intense and uniform blue. It is one of the first reference American discus varieties.
Appearance
Deep cobalt-blue body. The stripes are dense and sometimes fused, creating an almost solid effect. Lightly visible vertical bars. Red eyes. Intense blue fins.
🧬 Genetic background
Blue Turquoise × selection for intense cobalt blue. The blue stripes are maximized, and the background also turns blue. Selection aims to reduce vertical bars.
