Heckle Turquoise
Symphysodon discus × S. aequifasciatus
Description
The Heckel Turquoise combines the wild appearance of the Heckel discus (prominent central bar) with the bright turquoise stripes of domestic hybrids.
🌍 Origin & History
Heckel Turquoise originates from the crossbreeding of wild Heckel discuses (Symphysodon discus) with domestic turquoise lines. The wild Heckel is found in the Rio Negro, and the hybrid combines the central bar of the Heckel with the domestic turquoise stripes.

🧬 Genetic background
Symphysodon discus (Heckel) × Domestic turquoise. The Heckel contributes the gene for the pronounced 5th central bar — its distinctive feature. The hybrid exhibits the Heckel central bar plus the turquoise stripes of domestic varieties.
